How to Choose The Best Red Lipstick for Every Occasion

Bright and dramatic colors are immediately eye catching, and that means red lipstick can be a good thing except when it's overdone which makes it looks out of balance. so here's a few guidelines that make the most of lip drama.

Think about all the elements

let's take into consideration what you're wearing, the weather. the event, your coloring, skin and hair, and the tone of red lipstick. Also the neckline, the amount of skin showing, whether your outfit is a turtleneck style or a strappy dress. On top of that the rest of your makeup needs to be more subtle also. It's just one element of the total picture. I wonder if artists have this dilemma in a still life Painting where they might add or replace an apple from a bowl. Nonetheless, color matters for the sake of balance so you'll be wearing the prettiest red for you at the right time.

Start with the makeup look you have in mind

lighter Eye shadows and subtle cheeks go best with strong lips. This works well with strong lashes, defined brows and fully shaped lips. Keep contour colors a one tone up version from your skin tone and stay neutral everywhere but lips. and maybe one other place like a color liner or shimmery shadow.

Lipstick for Your Outfit

Wearing light color clothes- when wearing white, silver, gold or pastels or have lots of skin showing, a deep burgundy or bright stoplight red, cherry red to fuschia and plum lipcolor is perfect.

Wearing Dark Colors

Blue, burgundy, wine, brown, grey or black clothing- All the more reason to wear a blue red lip color and add some glistening highlight on your skin or shine on your brow bone or gloss. Keep blush fresh and light.

Weather the Storm Lipstick

On a cloudy day add more smokey liner and if it's sweater weather or night add darker lashes and stronger liner with lighter shadows and light cheeks plus rich clear red and maroons or cinnamon reds.

Weekend Wear for Summer Red lips

Bikinis, dresses, tees or shorts look crisp and fresh with a bold lip and a swipe of bronze or shimmery highlight over cheeks and eyes. If your hair color is blonde go with a bold rich red lipcolor. For brown hair and redheads, or golden, freckled or tan skin- try cinnamon to berry lips and for black hair and/ or deep tan to darker skin, plum to blue reds on lips. For extra dark skin color vibrant fuschia or glossy reds add a pretty contrast.

Fashion Lipcolor Trends

Brown-plum, black-magenta and violet lipcolors maybe a fun occasional thing but I haven't seen many people look great in them except on a runway or on a photo shoot. But that's not real life. The most flattering are deep magenta and violet but only with either a very sleek outfit or with jeans.

Full Lips and Thin Lips

If your lips are naturally full you can wear deeper plums and magenta shades also. Smaller lips- go for coral red tones or rich pinks, Be sure to outline the outer lip borders if you have smaller or thin lips because deeper colors make lips look smaller than they are.
